BAILS offers individual services to help consumers reach their self-set Independent Living needs and wants. Each person decides the direction of their own life. The four “core” services, as well as other services, are available to any person. These include but are not limited to:
·INFORMATION & REFERRAL - We will respond to your requests for informati on about disabilities or independent living related issues as quickly as possible. BAILS will also refer individuals to other resources that offer additional services that we are unable to provide.
·ADVOCACY - We provide organizations, people with disabilities, and the general public training to advocate for their own needs. In addition, we educate legislators on a local, state, and national level regarding issues confronting people with disabilities.
·SKILLS TRA INING - We give assistance to an individual learning or re-learning any aspect of life activities that could increase their independence and control over their life.
· PEER SUPPORT - We will work to match individuals in a one-to-one or group setting with others with similar disabilities.
Other Related Services
ADAPTIVE TECHNOLOGY – We can provide information on adaptive equipment and aids which will help individuals function more independently in their home. Such adaptive equipment includes: phone amplifiers, magnifying lens and large button telephones.
DISABILITY AWARENESS PROGRAM (DAP) – We educate service organizations, businesses and schools about barriers people with disabilities face.
EDUCATIONAL SERVICES – We have been able to go into the schools and do Sensitivity Training to 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders. Each grade's training is different and includes a video, assistive technology demonstration and a Q & A session conducted by a person with a disability. This training can be conducted in the school system, for boys and girls clubs , and to churches.
EQUIPMENT LOAN PROGRAM – We loan aids and assistive technology to people with disabilities with no deposit or payment for 60 days. Our equipment inventory includes but is not limited to the following: Geri Chair, Manual Wheelchairs, Walkers with and without wheels, Shower Chairs, Lift Chair and Crutches.
HOME MODIFICATION PROGRAM –We will, with assistance of community and volunteers, assist you in accessible modifications. Examples of these modifications include: grab bars, ramps, furniture arrangement and information.
IEP SERVICES –We assist in school-based advocacy to benefit students with disabilities in designing their Individual Educational Plan. Current laws provide for technical assistance for an acceptable IEP.
LOW VISION CENTER – We have a Low Vision Center for the elderly and people with disabilities who have difficulty reading due to low vision. Aids and devices are available to loan to assist the visually impaired .
NEWSLETTER –We issue quarterly newsletters containing disability issues, support groups, resources, and other disability-related information. You Can read our Latest Newsletter by clicking on the link to the left labled News.

In staying true to our purpose of helping people with disabilities maintain and increase personal independence, we offer the PCA program. This program allows the in dividual to increase quality of life within the home through the assistance of a personal care attendant. Many individuals have been able to avoid unnecessary stays in residential facilities and some have even left residential facilities for the comfort and independence of their own homes.
HOME MODIFICATION - With the assistance of communities and volunteers we are able to help build ramps, provide grab bars, widen door ways, etc, for individuals. Along with providing information to businesses making their business accessible.
RESOURCE LIBRARY - We are still adding to our resource material. There are videos, books, magazines, and newsletters all in which you can learn about disabilities for people with disabilities. We are also connected to the Internet, which people with disabilities may utilize.
TELECOMMUNICATIONS ACCESS PROGRAM FOR TELEPHONE (TAP) – Do you have difficulty using your phone? Is it hard for you to hear your friends and family, to see the numbers that you want to dial, or to operate t he p hone because of a mobility challenge? The TAP program allows us to help people obtain special phones for those who have a disability that prevents or hinders their use of a phone. We can help you with an amplified phone , one with large numbers, one that operates using just a breathe of air, TTY machines for those who have a severe haring impairment, signaling devices that let you know when a call is coming in, and several combinations of all the above.
